伊藤牧子さんのところから始まった言葉のリレー、素敵ですね。

１５年前、若い頃から渡米を夢見ていた祖父が８８歳の時、アメリカへ招待しました。たった一週間の滞在でしたがたいへん喜び、帰国後まもなく旅行記を送ってきました。祖父の感動を分かち合いたいという思いでホームページを作り、多くの方に旅行記を読んでいただきました。

英訳したいという希望はありましたが私の英語力では無理なことでした。ある日他州に住むアメリカ人の友人から大きな封筒が届き、中から出てきたのは英訳された祖父の旅行記でした！あの時の感激は今でも忘れません。友人のお陰で、亡くなった後も祖父の言葉は二ヶ国語で生き続けます。

心に響く言葉から生まれる人の心の温かさや新しい人とのつながりの尊さを改めて実感しています。

I hate it when people start treating languages as if they were some sort of product. Sure, it's a tool but is ALIVE too.
